At Fabdesigns, we're all about breaking the 'can't' barrier, and we're as tight-lipped as a magician with their secrets!
You see, lots of folks have brilliant ideas, but they're like puzzle pieces scattered in a tornado. That's where we step in, armed with real-world experience and a knack for turning ideas into full-blown, market-ready products across a wide range of industries.
If you're into needing knit engineering (and who wouldn't be?), we're your wizards. We'll take your wild ideas and make them real—think cutting-edge prototypes and super-scalable solutions. And guess what? With our crew of experts and our fancy flatbed knitting machines, we're all about sparking innovation, crafting eco-friendly product journeys, creating custom product roadmaps, and using advanced manufacturing that's practically waste-free!
Ready to dive into the creative mix? Let's start a conversation about making magic together!
Well, we're not just the wizards behind 2D and 3D wonders for top global brands – we're designers and engineers with a twist!
We've always seen knitting as the ultimate form of creative 'making.'
Our specialty?
Crafting cutting-edge textiles, mind-boggling apparel, and fantastic footwear solutions for B2B partners, even though our heart lies in the world of knitted fashion.
Back in the day, Fabdesigns sprung to life in the vibrant LA fashion scene, thanks to our founder, Connie Huffa, and Master Knit Wizard, Bruce Huffa. We danced with major brands and local manufacturers, conjuring up some of the trendiest knitwear the planet has ever seen!"
But one day, as we saw heaps of waste from traditional cutting and sewing, we thought, 'There's got to be a better way!' From then on, we've been known for taming the wildest fabrics and shaping them into apparel, bags, accessories, medical gadgets, car interiors, and yes, even footwear. Where's the sustainability in all this? We've got that in our bag too.
Before 'sustainability' was the buzzword, we were on a mission to trim the fat, reduce waste, and make your materials work smarter, not harder. But that's not all! We're not just about saving the planet; we're here to save your day too.
Our secret sauce? We listen, we understand, and we solve big problems – with totally unbiased recommendations. We're not cozy with any vendor, yarn maker, or machine builder.
And here's a plot twist: In 2008, Bruce Huffa turned our tech into what's now known as Flyknit. That shook up the knitting world, and let's just say, it got us into a bit of a 'David vs. Goliath' showdown over the IP. The people who matter know the real truth behind the curtains.
Life's full of surprises, right?"
Tell us your plot twist.
Mission Statement: At Fabdesigns, we're on a mission to save the planet from fashion disasters! And not just talking about it. We have sincere integrity to build sustainability in from the fiber forward. Why? Did you know that only a measly 14% of textiles get a second chance, while millions of tons of textile waste clog up landfills? It's time for a change, and we're leading the charge. We help brands revolutionize industries by creating super-light, eco-friendly, and super-versatile products. We're all about 3D magic with almost no waste and crafting products using recycled materials that are a breeze to assemble – no cutting, minimal sewing, and practically zero waste.
Vision Statement: Picture this: a world where manufacturing is as smart as your smartphone. Our vision is all about closing the recycling loop and crafting products that are exactly what you want when you want them. We're talking digital wizardry that controls materials, processes, and the whole manufacturing show. We keep only the raw materials we need, and we mix and match them to create a gazillion different product combinations. It's like a factory that doesn't believe in excess – no extra inventory, just perfect products every time.
Wanna collab?
But hey, we're not your run-of-the-mill business wizards. We're more like the mad scientists of innovation!
We've got a treasure trove of experience in R&D, market-sleuthing, and operational mastery. When it comes to crafting customer-focused product solutions, we're all about crunching numbers, sniffing out trends, and collecting juicy insights from every corner. Meet our Knit Master Wizard and CEO, Bruce Huffa! He's not your average brainiac. Hailing from Hinckley Poly-Tech in the UK, he's the protege of the brilliant inventor and futurist, Thomas Stoll. Plus, he's got the official stamp of approval as a world-class certified flat knitting engineer, thanks to one of the big names in machine building.
Now, Bruce has been in the game for over 35 years, and let's just say, he's a pro at creating brainy stuff for Fabdesigns and global heavy-hitters. Since the '80s, he's been obsessed with shaping yarn into mind-boggling 3D structures that make you wonder, 'How on earth did they do that?' And the best part? He's got a knack for doing it with minimal sewing and nearly zero waste.
He's like a knitting nomad, jet-setting around the world to set up shop in knitting factories and make magic happen. From aerospace to medical marvels, footwear fantasies to industrial textile wonders, Bruce has left his mark everywhere. Oh, and about those patents? There are so many with his name on them that we've lost count!
But here's the real showstopper – Bruce is the genius who brought 3D technical knitting to the masses. You might remember the FIRST 3D knit running shoe in 2008?
Yep, that was him! It won awards all over the globe for its drop-dead gorgeous design, brainy engineering, and sustainability creds, all thanks to our Fabdesigns' game-changing tech.
His motto? 'The impossible only exists until you make it possible.' Bruce is living proof that when you never give up, you can conquer even the craziest challenges.
Meet Connie Huffa, the fearless founder of Fabdesigns right here in sunny Los Angeles, California!
Now, she's no ordinary textile whiz. Connie's got a Bachelor of Science in textiles from the Philly College of Textiles and Science, and she's not just book smart – she's a teacher too!
With many years of experience, Connie's like a textile magician. Her work colleagues at Shell used to take out the Fairchild textile dictionary and play, 'Stump Connie." They are still flipping pages. lol
She's been designing everything from 2D to 5D textiles, apparel, and even medical gizmos, using materials science blended with the arts of desgin as her secret sauce.
But hold onto your knitting needles, because Connie's not just about the theory. She's the brains behind the fashion for some big-name apparel brands like PhillipsVanHeusen and Tricots St Raphael in the concrete jungle of NYC, and their factories all around the world.
And guess what? She's not afraid of a little adventure – she's spent over 20 years cooking up textiles and products that can handle the wildest environments.
But that's not all! Connie's a high-flying exec too, with stints in the automotive materials and product development world. From Director to VP of Product Development at Shell Oil US and Kraco Enterprises, she's been the driving force behind turning boring products into hundreds of millions of dollar industry powerhouses.
She speaks the language of numbers, fashion, risk, operations, and all things EBITDA with ease. But here's the kicker – Connie's not just keeping her knowledge to herself. She's spreading the textile gospel at fancy conferences and symposiums all around the globe.
Connie Huffa – where passion meets fashion, and innovation is always in vogue!"
She is an industry contributor to (Knitting Trade Journal, Knitting Industry, Textile World, Advanced Textiles Source, Specialty Fabrics Review, WTin, Textile Innovations), and International Consultant and Conference Speaker on innovation and textile technology (IFAI, Techtextile, ANPIC, CITME, TTI Vanguard), and has developed customized in-house technical workshops for many fortune 100 brands around the world.
